EVANS SCHOLARS
FOUNDATION

When Chicago golf great Charles "Chick" Evans Jr. founded the Evan Scholars Program in 1930, his goal was simple. Give something back to the game by establishing a scholarship fund for deserving caddies.

The Evans Scholars Foundation is a charitable trust which provides undergraduate scholarships for deserving caddies. The Western Golf Association has sponsored the program since the first two Evans Scholars enrolled at Northwestern University in the fall of 1930. More than 8,200 caddies, both men and women, have graduated from college as Evans Scholars Alumni. Evans, who learned the game as a caddie at Edgewater Golf Club in Chicago, gained worldwide fame in 1916 when he became the first golfer ever to win both the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open championships in the same year. The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is a four year full tuition and housing scholarship. Most Evans Scholars attend one of the 14 universities where the Evans Scholars Foundation owns and operates a Scholarship House. The average grade point average of these scholars is over 3.2.

Maketewah Country Club is a leading sponsor of the Evans Scholarship Program. Maketewah has been blessed to have 43 recipients of this prestigious scholarship. The resurgence of our caddie program recently has made Maketewah a leader nationally in Evans awardees over the past ten years. We have over 100 members of the Par Club which raises funds for ESF. Maketewah annually raises over $20,000 for this outstanding charity.
